Becoming pregnant and starting to build a family can be an exciting and joyful experience, full of anticipation. Choosing to become pregnant, or continuing forward with a surprise pregnancy, can also be an overwhelming time, full of doubt, confusion, and fear. Everyone’s journey to becoming a parent is deeply personal, unfolding uniquely for each individual, couple, and family. Your path to becoming pregnant may have been simple, maybe even getting pregnant earlier than you anticipated or with ease. Or your pregnancy may have been the result For many, this pregnancy may be the result of fertility support, years of waiting and trying, or the first pregnancy after a loss. No matter how your pregnancy came to be, there may be unanticipated challenges as you move forwards on this new adventure.  

For some, this season of life can be full of unforeseen challenges or and disappointments, maybe navigating shifts in lifestyle, identity, relationships, familial expectations, and employment during this time. Your experience of pregnancy may be For some, the experience of pregnancy is much different than you anticipated, conditions such as hyperemesis gravidarum, gestational diabetes, anxiety, and mood changes can make your pregnancy more complex than expected. For many pregnant people, pregnancy is the first time they are engaging with the medical system, which can be overwhelming and intimidating. Navigating the ups and downs of pregnancy and facing the new and unknown can feel isolating, especially when you’re expected to feel joyful and excited.

There are often strong social and cultural expectations during pregnancy, which lead many people to feel confused or disappointed when their experience doesn’t fit within the cultural narrative.
